How does IVF work?IVF involves joining a woman’s egg and a man’s sperm outside the woman’s body; the woman’s own eggs or donor eggs can be used for fertilisation, as well as the man’s own sperm or donor sperm.
If a woman cannot conceive and her partner's sperm are healthy, we use donor eggs fertilised with the partner's sperm.

A lot rides on the first few days after fertilisation — more than most people realise. For couples going through IVF, a good chunk of what determines the outcome is already being decided in that short stretch of time, before a pregnancy has even properly begun. For most women, a pregnancy test is the first real answer to a question they have been turning over for days.
